The clock
Same as yesterday. Work 9:30–10:10, break, 10:30–11:10, break, 11:30–12:10, break, exam 12:30–1:00. Phones off until 1:30.
The one method
To add or subtract, the denominators have to match.
1/2 + 1/3.
Halves and thirds meet at sixths. 1/2 = 3/6. 1/3 = 2/6. Add the tops: 5/6.
3/4 − 1/6.
Fourths and sixths meet at twelfths. 3/4 = 9/12. 1/6 = 2/12. Subtract: 7/12.
Multiply is different. You do not find a common denominator. Cancel first if you can, then multiply tops and bottoms. 2/3 × 3/8 = 1/4, because the 3 cancels.
Divide is flip the second fraction, then multiply. 1/2 ÷ 1/3 = 1/2 × 3/1 = 3/2.
Every answer in lowest terms.
